2005 Fayette County Baptist Camp Meeting
What is a Camp Meeting? The Dictionary defines it as "A prolonged series of religious meetings held in a grove or field, usually in a tent". The Camp Meeting we just had at Packs Branch Baptist Church does not technically qualify, since we hold ours indoors. Therefore, we have a new definition. It is as follows: Camp Meeting: "A series of old fashioned church services held in an old fashioned church with an old fashioned preacher and old fashioned people who long for an old fashioned visitation of the power and presence of God." The singing is loud and lively. The preaching is fiery not flowery, delivered by a PREACHER - not a six foot icicle blocking a pretty view of the baptistery, with hell preached HOT and heaven preached SWEET.
The end result of such a meeting is; Jesus is lifted UP while the Devil is kicked OUT. Those involved in such a meeting may have the uncontrollable urge to sing, shout, run, stomp, clap and generally lose their dignity. A Camp Meeting will Get ALL OVER YOU, but it won't hurt you, and we sure could use a few more in this day and age!
